Vanilla Butter Braised Lobster

Happy Valentine's Day from French Fridays with Dorie.  We had a lovely dinner thanks to Dorie and the Doristas.  Vanilla Butter Braised Lobster (page 324) was the star.
We bought lobster tails which my husband was in charge of cooking.  He had trouble getting the lobster to 160 degrees in the butter.  We thought this technique was a little more complicated than it needed to be.  I couldn't get pass the amount of butter, we did not use 6 sticks of butter but 4. A pound seemed enough.  We also made lemon-steamed spinach (page 331) that Dorie suggested.  It was a great meal and enjoyed by all.
I made Liz's Red Velvet Brownies for my son.  For the rest of the week there were known as Reddies instead of Brownies.
Dories's Marquise au Chocolat from Baking Chez Moi served the second time around with strawberries.
Those of you on Facebook saw this picture already.  Mary is very organized and timely in her photos. We had a fabulous lunch hosted by the lovely Susan and John Lester.  I had a great time meeting fellow Doristas and I didn't want to leave.

  3. I loved seeing the pictures from your Dorista SoCal luncheon. I'm glad you all had a chance to meet and had such a good time together. It looks like you had a wonderful lineup of dishes cooked at home too.

  4. It seems like a lot of us had trouble getting past the amount of butter :-) I'm so glad you all enjoyed this, what a lovely Valentine's dinner. Those brownies look delicious!

  5. Anytime spent with Mary and Susan has to be a blast, they are both so much fun. Tricia and I enjoyed meeting them in Seattle. All of your recipes turned out lovely,

  6. Loved "meeting" you via all the posts from the SoCal Doristas this week - such fun. Also love what you managed to cook this week including Liz's dessert. The "reddies" is such a cute name. And serving the lobster with a baked potato ?? GENUIS since we all had about 18 pounds of butter leftover. Well played. Well played indeed ~

  7. Dear Diane, how wonderful that you got to meet Susan, Mary and Katie! Your Butter-Braised Lobster looks wonderful and delicious on that nice bed of Lemon-Steamed Spinach - although I did enjoy this recipe with fresh prawns as well. The Red Velvet Brownies look fabulous and so does your Marquise de Chocolat - just picture perfect for a Valentine´s Day!

  8. I am glad you saved a little butter for the potato. And, yes, the 6 sticks was overkill. I am glad you baked the "reddies" for your son, the Marquise au Chocolat for the two of you and saved your Hazelnut Crescent Cookies for us. They were delicious. As was the Guac. It was so nice for you to make the journey to Oxnard last Sunday, Diane, and that we got to meet your family was also a treat. Your little guy (not so little, really) is a doll. As is Michael.

  9. I almost served baked potatoes with my lobster too, but instead I roasted them. Your whole meal looks wonderful, and how fun to meet some fellow Doristas! I still haven't had that chance...

  11. Diane, your lobster turned out great and now that I've met your husband and son I can picture you all enjoying the dinner and the reddies! It was so nice to meet you and your family and I hope we can do it again sometime!
